Eagle Cliff Water System
The Eagle Cliff water system services about 100 users in the Eagle Cliff neighbourhood.
Water for the Eagle Cliff system is supplied by a deep groundwater well and an open surface reservoir. It is treated by flow-paced injection of sodium hypochlorite into the water supply main with limited contact time and is UV disinfected. Turbidity is recorded and monitored regularly. The water is tested for chlorine residuals every day and samples are sent to Vancouver Coastal Health once a week.
The annual water charge for Eagle Cliff is based on the average daily consumption for water used as measured by meter, during the period of June 1 to September 30:
|Gallons per day =||Annual charge|
|51 - 100||$440|
|101 - 150||$465|
|151 - 175||$500|
|176 - 200||$540|
|201 - 225||$580|
Each additional gallon over 225 gallons is charged at $1.50/gallon.
For the newer meters, 1 Cubic Metre of water is equal to 219.97 Imperial Gallons.
Changes are coming to your water bill
Last year, Council asked us to review all Municipal water rate bylaws with a view to developing uniform and consistent charges for all Municipal water users. Tunstall Bay was the first water system (outside of Cove Bay) to switch to a hybrid billing system and the other water districts will follow suit.
Why switch to metered rates?
- promotes a culture of water conservation
- improves leak protection
- develops consistency Island-wide
- distributes costs more equitably
How to get involved?
- Subscribe to the Eagle Cliff Water System mailing list to receive updates about upcoming changes, meeting dates and alerts for scheduled maintenance
- Attend an information meeting (to be scheduled in March 2017)
- Check out the agendas and minutes of the Local Advisory Committee meetings
Bowen Island is taking steps towards a drought management plan by endorsing the Greater Vancouver Regional District Water Shortage Response Plan (WSRP) in order to promote awareness about the importance of water conservation.
If you are interested in receiving e-mail updates about topics relevant to your municipal water system, please subscribe to your water system mailing list.
The Eagle Cliff Water System Local Advisory Committee has advisory powers to Council regarding water system issues, and also reviews the operating and capital budgets for the utility. The Committee meets two to three times a year, including an annual information meeting where any users of the Eagle Cliff Water System are welcome to attend.
